HAPPY DECEMBER, FRIENDS!
It’s finally the greatest time of year, and of course, we must have a go-to red lip! Luckily for you, I’ve narrowed down the long list of red lippies out there and picked the best of the best. While I will be more so focusing on the shades of red, I’ll also provide different formulas so that there’ll be at least one that’s great for you! I’ve, of course, included photos so you have the best chance to choosing your perfect festive red lip! 💄

- Rare Beauty – Lip Souffle Matte Creme – Inspire
This is a bright, warm red matte lipstick, that glides onto the lips and is incredibly comfortable to wear throughout the day. For me, it fades subtly as I wear it. I find that it comes across as more of an orange-red on some, if not most. This formula and color definitely surprised me, and it’s one of the more wearable reds on this list.
2. Huda Beauty – Demi Matte Cream Liquid Lipstick – Boy Collector.
Sephora describes this lip color as an alluring statement red, and I couldn’t agree more! This is a blue-toned red cream lipstick that feels extremely smooth and hydrating on your lips. I do find that it moves and fades easily, but that is to be expected as it is more of creamy consistency. One thing for sure, this is extremely pigmented and bold and it is surely not for the faint-hearted!
3. Kat Von D Vegan Beauty – Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Santa Sangre
Ah! An oldie but such a goodie! If you’re looking for a liquid lipstick that literally will not budge under your mandatory mask, while you’re having Christmas breakfast, or even under the mistletoe – search no more! This is for you! This is a comfortable matte formula, that lives up to its name. This shade is a cool-toned medium, almost classic red, that can be perfect for anyone!
4. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain – 96 Red Velvet
DO NOT SLEEP ON SEPHORA COLLECTION! Honestly, these are incredibly affordable and really great quality lippies. They’re extremely comfortable and great for everyday wear. They are long-lasting, but on the rare occasion you need to reapply, they do so easily. There’s also a slight sheen after applying. This color is one of my favs! It is so effortless and chic. It’s a blue-toned red, with the slightest hint of fuchsia in it.
5. Lime Crime – Velvetine Liquid Lipstick – Wicked
Ughhh! My absolute favorite red. I have been obsessed with this for years. Lime Crime’s Velvetines were the first liquid lipsticks I ever tried, and they hold a very special place in my heart. My second favorite (velvetine) color is Wicked, which is blood red. It isn’t your typical classic Christmas red, but still worth checking out. It’s great if you want something that is still bold, but a bit more toned down. These literally last ALL DAY, but it comes at a cost. They definitely dry out your lips by the end of the day, but I have no problem with it. (Have your Aquaphor & Cedros Bay lip scrub on hand!)
6. Too Faced – Melted Matte – Drop Dead Red
Another uncommon red for this time of the year. It’s a cool-toned burgundy red color. It’s not bright at all, but still extremely bold. If you’re not into the typical festive lip color, but still wanna dip your toes into the red trend, this will be for you! Again, this is a matte liquid lipstick, so it won’t transfer on you (which is great considering how bold it is.)
7. L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick – Classic Wine
If you’re into liquid lipsticks, or just find them to be too much work, have no fear dear, I still got you! This L’oreal lipstick may be just what you’re looking for. It’s extremely lightweight. This a subtle cherry-pink/red with a pearlescent finish, that’s great for everyday wear. You may need to build the color a bit but that should be no issue since it’s hydrating and applies smoothly to the lips. This lipstick is not transfer-proof at all but is a breeze to reapply.
8. MAC Lipglass – A Favourite Flame
If you’re not into lipsticks at all, these next two are you for!
This is a spicy, warm, medium-toned raspberry red shade that can be worn on its own, or over other red lippies. Now of course this is lipgloss so it has a high-gloss finish. It’s more pigmented than most glosses and applies more so as a cream.
9. MAC – Lipglass Viva Glam I
This is an intense (well as intense as glosses can get, lol) brownish-red lipgloss. It a bit deeper and more subdued but still packs a punch. Gloss makes any color more wearable, and for that reason alone, it can be your go-to red this season!
Honorable mention – Of course, I couldn’t leave out Fenty’s Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored! This is described as the perfect universal red, and I could definitely agree. Unfortunately, I lost mine some time ago (we won’t speak of this tragedy,) so I don’t have my own photos to show, so Rihanna herself will have to do.
